The main circular hike will be approx 7 miles long, of moderate difficulty, with some muddy sections. Shorter walks are possible for those who want an easier option.

We walk on the quiet road past the wind turbines towards Howarth.
The shorter walk leaves the road before it goes downhill. Easy leading eventually to Ogden Water.
For the longer walk we continue to the bottom of the hill we leave the road to walk on a track leading to Ogden Water app 6 to 7 miles.

April Walk 2025
Saturdays hike is a circular 7 mile walk (OS explorer map 278 Sheffield & Barnsley)
Setting off at 11am prompt and starting from the public (and free) car park located on the Main Street, Wentworth, Rotherham postcode S62 7TL.
We firstly make our way across fields to the Elsecar Heritage Centre where there are toilets - should anyone need to use them.
We then have inclines away from Elsecar across farmers fields/boundaries, a short section by the side of the main road and we finish by walking up a long driveway towards Wentworth Woodhouse.
The conditions underfoot are good with only a short section - after leaving the Heritage centre - which is soft soil but easily passable.
Refreshments can be taken at Wentworth Woodhouse (coffee and cake) or the pub next to the car park - whichever is preferred.
Due to the fact that we are crossing farmer's boundary walls/fences there are 11 stiles total to climb.
Our walk will bring us to the house and this is what we would see. The grounds are vast and have deer in adjoining fields.
